Hike to Huchuy Qosqo - Little Cusco
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley early in the morning to travel by bus to the town of Patabamba (3750 meters or 12375 feet above sea level). The town is located in the highlands above the town of Pisac. We meet our crew waiting for us with our pack animals and we begin to hike for an approximate four and half hours of easy gradual uphill; we’ll enjoy views of the Urubamba range Glaciers: Pitusiray, Sihuasiray, Chicón and San Juan. We reach our highest point of the hike: “Apacheta de Pumamarka” a pass at 4,200 meters or 13,860 feet above sea level. Here we have a picnic lunch enjoying spectacular surrounding views of the Vilcabamba, Urubamba and Vilcanota mountain ranges filled with snow peaks. After the pass we begin descending to connect with an original Inca trail that leads our way to Huchuy Qosqo (Little Cusco in the native Qechua language) and later enter a canyon populated with native Queuña trees and lots of bromeliads, we pass a group of Inca terraces and buildings to later reach a view platform, from where you see Huchuy Qosqo and the Sacred Valley. Here we have time for pictures and enjoy the views to later descend for a short while to the outstanding Inca remains of Huchuy Qosqo at 3,600 meter or 11,880 feet above sea level. This place was the Palace of the 8th Inca “Wiracocha”, after a visit to the complex we begin descending by way of a steep trail for about one hour to the town of Lamay in the Sacred Valley. Here we board the bus that will take us back to our hotel. Picnic Lunch.
